Common Questions

Things People Often Ask

Where do I begin if I am not sure what needs to be done?
The most natural first step is simply to come in for a conversation. Bring whatever documents you have — or nothing at all if you are still unsure what is involved. We will listen, explain the situation calmly, and help you understand what the next steps might look like. There is no commitment in that first meeting.
How long does administering an estate usually take?
It depends on the circumstances of the estate — the number of beneficiaries, whether there is a will, the types of assets involved, and any particular complexities. Simpler matters may resolve within a few months; others may take longer. We will give you a realistic sense of the likely timeline once we have had a chance to review the situation with you.
Do I need a will for my estate to be properly handled?
A will can make things considerably clearer and more straightforward for your family. However, if there is no will, the estate is still distributable — through what is known as intestate succession under Malaysian law. We can walk you through both situations and help you understand what applies in your case.
What are the fees and will there be any additional costs?
Our fees are set out clearly from the beginning. For each service, the stated fee covers our professional work. Where there may be court filing fees or other third-party costs, we will tell you about these separately and in advance — so there are no surprises.
Is the information I share kept in confidence?
Absolutely. Everything you share with us — the circumstances of the estate, family details, and any documents — is held in the strictest confidence. This is a foundational part of how we work, and we take it seriously.
Can Pusaka Murni assist with both Muslim and non-Muslim estates?
Yes. We are experienced in handling matters under both the civil succession framework applicable to non-Muslims in Malaysia, and matters relevant to Muslim estates. We will discuss the applicable law with you clearly from the outset.
